It’s only three months since my son and I walked 100 miles for charity – and now I’m doing it all over again, with extra mileage! How did this happen?

It all started when Best New Bingo Sites (or rather Ubud, the organisation behind it and another bingo comparison site, WDW Bingo) was nominated for yet another award. This time, we’ve been shortlisted for the EGR Operator Awards 2020 in the Bingo Affiliate category. This year, the award ceremony is being conducted online rather than in the glitzy surroundings of London’s Grosvenor House.

After being shortlisted we were sent details of the EGR Operator Awards Virtual Race. Although the vast majority of those who play at UK licensed gaming and betting sites do so safely and responsibly, a few experience gambling related harm and there are a number of charities dedicated to helping them.

Gamcare runs a 24 hour helpline along with a number of other support services for anyone affected by problem gambling.

YGAM provides tools and information to educate and safeguard young people against problematic gambling and gaming.

Together, EGR and Safer Gambling Week created the EGR Operator Awards Virtual Race to raise money for and awareness of these charities.

“Cycle, run or walk” – well, it wasn’t going to be run or cycle was it! Walk, though – I know how to do that!

But how far to walk? The choices were 30, 60, 90 or 120+ miles, to be completed individually or as a team. We DO have a team (and by “we” I mean FTD Digital, the division of Ubud that manages our UK affiliate sites) – please visit our fundraising page if you’d like to chip in a little money for Gamcare.

However, since I completed 100 miles individually so recently there was only one thing that was actually going to count as a challenge and that was to complete 120 miles BY MYSELF (albeit with company from my husband, my son and/or friends on most of the walks).

So at the moment, I’m on target to make it but only just! Better get a couple of longer walks in at the weekend! (And yes, I do have a full set of waterproofs and sturdy waterproof and mudproof boots, and have very much needed them).

Check back after 10th November to find out whether I made it!
